Privacy Policy
GCSE Theory is a simple revision site designed for GCSE students and their families. This page explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
1. What information we collect
When you use GCSE Theory, we collect only the information we need to run your account and improve the site:
- Email address - used to create and sign in to your account.
- Name (if you choose to add one) - helps us personalise your experience.
- Usage data - things like which quizzes you take, your scores, and how often you use the site. This helps us see what is working and where to improve.
We do not ask for your home address or payment details.
2. Why we collect this information
We use your information for three main reasons:
- To create and manage your account- so you can sign in securely and keep your progress.
- To show your quiz progress - so you can see what you have done and what to practise next.
- To keep GCSE Theory safe and reliable- for example, by spotting suspicious logins or fixing technical issues.
3. How your data is stored
GCSE Theory uses Firebase Authentication, a service provided by Google, to handle sign-ups and logins.
- Your email and password are stored securely by Firebase, not directly on our own servers.
- Passwords are encrypted and are never visible to us in plain text.
- Usage data (such as quiz attempts and scores) may be stored in Firebase or other secure databases we use to power the site.
We aim to keep your data for only as long as it is needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, we will remove or anonymise your personal data where reasonably possible.
4. Cookies, in simple terms
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your web browser. Almost all websites use cookies.
GCSE Theory uses cookies and similar technologies to:
- Remember that you are logged in.
- Keep your session secure while you move between pages.
- Understand, in a general way, which parts of the site are used the most.
You can usually control cookies in your browser settings (including blocking them or deleting them). If you block all cookies, some parts of GCSE Theory may not work properly, such as staying signed in.
5. Your rights
Because GCSE Theory is used in the UK, data protection laws such as the UK GDPR apply. In simple terms, this means you have rights over your personal information. These include:
- Access - you can ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Correction - you can ask us to fix information that is wrong or out of date.
- Deletion - you can ask us to delete your account and, where possible, remove your personal data.
- Restriction or objection - in some situations you can ask us to stop using your data in a particular way.
If you would like to use any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
6. How to contact us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact the GCSE Theory team at:

7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or if the law changes. When we make important changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
